Nice Things

I haven't blogged in a while, so here's some nice things.

Some of these are just things I like, some are things I've discovered this week.

Second Sidebar for Firefox

I've tried many browsers, with many sidebars, and most of them have something which makes them jank. This is the best I've used. And it's on Firefox.

You can do pinned, floating, put your Whatsapp in it, your Mastodon, WHATEVS!

It is a bit tricky to set up, but worth it.

Gnumeric

I struggle with spreadsheet applications. Not because they're difficult to use, but normally because they look like dogshit.

Excel is made by Microsoft, requires a subscription and by default saves to your fucking one drive. I abhor the way they have removed a traditional file browser across all of Office now and obfuscate where your files are actually saved - try teaching how to use this fucking thing to my mam who has used THE CORRECT FUCKING WAY for 30 years.

Only Office looks better, but is an electron app and scales like I've got a greasy screen.

LibreOffice looks like dogshit and is slow to load - anything that has a banner at the start can fuck off (except you dbeaver; you've got my heart).

Numbers on Mac is about the only thing I could bear, but I'm sure they've fucked that up in some way in the few years since I was on mac. Probably advertising Apple TV through it now.

ANYWAY. Gnumeric is lightweight and does the job. Starts quick, has most features you'd want and looks like a spreadsheet app. I guess it looks like it's meant to run on my PC too, as opposed to LibreOffice which looks like a Windows XP program being emulated.

Micro SD Card Box

I lose SD cards like no ones business, this is the most useful thing I've 3D printed as of yet.

Happy Friday everyone, and remember what you don't do today you won't get in trouble for 'til Monday!
